A Closer Look

The Peugeot brand started in the 18th century and included kitchen appliances, metal fixtures, hydraulic equipment, automobiles, motorcycles, and bicycles. In 1927, the bicycle portion of the company separated from the rest and Peugeot Cycles was formed. The family saw the value of publicity in sponsoring racing cyclists. Paul Bourillon became the world sprint champion in Copenhagen in 1896 on a Peugeot bicycle. The family also backed riders in numerous road races and in 1905 sponsored their first Tour de France winner, Louis Trousselier. After the first Tour de France win, the Peugeot cycling team remained active in the Tour and other European cycle races. Peugeot would go on to become the most successful factory team of all time in the Tour de France, winning the race a record ten times.The J7 van served as a utility vehicle for professional cycling teams. For these teams, the service course was part office, part warehouse, part bike shop, and part garage. This model replicates the Peugeot J7 service course van in 1:43 scale. As you can see it features the famous Peugeot Lion trademark as well as the checkerboard design the cycling team wore for over 20 years. Also displayed are their sponsors; Esso (the international trade name for ExxonMobile) , Michelin, and Cycles Peugeot. The side door slides and the rear doors swing open to reveal the detailed interior including a workbench complete with toolbox and vise. The Truck #9 model features high detail, precision and quality, and is built to replicate the exact configuration of Redwood City Fire Department's TDA located in California, USA.

Functions and features of the Redwood City TDA include a pivoting and opening cab that reveals a detailed diesel engine and transmission, extendable 4 section diecast ladder with extending waterway, steerable front tractor and trailer axles, functional outriggers with removable pads and functioning suspension. Additional features include detailed tiller cab, accurate decal package, accurately replicated hoses and wires, roof mounted air handling unit, replicated diamond plated decking, work and safety lighting and photo etch steps.

Toy Cars and Models magazine Calls it Quits

We were very saddened by the news that one of our favorite die cast toy magazines was going to be calling it quits in just a couple of months. We received an email last week from Toy Cars and Models magazine which stated:

"We at F+W Publications continuously analyze our publishing strategy to determine if we are meeting your needs and Company goals. We take into consideration the marketplace we serve and the opportunities available for each of our magazine titles. After much analysis and deliberation, we have determined to cease publication of Toy Cars & Models Magazine, effective with the February 2008 edition."
