One of my favorite periods in automotive history is the 1970s. There's something about classic styling coupled with exciting advances in technology that make it an unforgettable era. You may think I'm talking about the appeal of muscle cars, like Corvettes, Thunderbirds, and the like, but right now I'm all about trucks. 

I love classic farm trucks; the boxier, the better. These new First Gear models certainly fit the bill!

Hello from Nuremberg!

Spielwarenmesse 2016 is officially underway, and the big news is Diecast Masters! It was very exciting to finally see the new and updated Caterpillar models on display complete with their operators in place. Yes, you'll notice a figure is now included in the drivers seat. You'll also notice the new metal packaging for the Highline models is quite impressive. The packaging for the Core Classic Series has received an updated look, plus the inner packaging is a clam shell with NO WIRE TIES!!! As good as these look in pictures, they look even better in person.

 

The lights on the new underground models are pretty great, right? They are not ready for release yet, but they are certainly something to look forward to later this year. Johnny Lightning is Making a Comeback. . . Again!

Johnny Lightning has had a storied history. Introduced in 1969 by Topper Toys to compete with Hot Wheels, Johnny Lightning was a hit for the high speeds achieved by their early models. Topper Toys went out of business in 1971, and in 1994 Playing Mantis toys picked up the Johnny Lightning name. In 2005, Playing Mantis was purchased by RC2, which was later purchased by TOMY. TOMY stopped production of Johnny Lightning in 2013, and Round 2 Corp. has just picked it up. 

Round 2 is the natural destination for this classic American line. They have done a great job bringing back other discontinued products and reestablishing them in today's market. They have revamped such brands as AMT, MPC, Polar Lights, and (of course) the mighty American Muscle. We are proud to showcase the first releases that Round 2 has concocted for Johnny Lightning!

New Model Announcement from Drake Collectibles

Drake Collectibles has announced the release of their largest 1:50 scale trailer model to date. The Drake 12x8 steerable platform, one of the flag ships of the actual Drake fleet, can now be found in miniature! This new model has the same award winning functionality and features you have come to expect from Drake. This initial release is offered in three liveries; McAleese, Doolan, and blank white.

Drake ZT09066 - 1/50 Doolan 2x8 dolly and 7x8 steerable trailer - MSRP $390

They are offering this unit in a kind of unique way. The standard trailer that comes with a 2x8 goose neck and loading ramps is offered in a 7x8 configuration. To make it bigger, an accessory package is available to take it all the way to a 12x8 configuration. Of course, this gives you other options as well, like a 9x8 or 10x8 configuration.

Drake has also added to their Kenworth C509 livery by releasing the model in the color scheme of Doolan Heavy Haulage. The C509 is the largest Kenworth road truck in Australia and although it looks similar, it is much larger than the previously released T908-909 trucks. The C509 boasts a realistically replicated cab interior, an opening engine hood, and a photo-etched exhaust guard. It also features a sliding and pivoting 5th wheel attachment with a spring loaded locking mechanism. This truck is absolutely loaded with features.

New Freightliner Coming from First Gear!

As we begin the New Year, more and more exciting announcements are being made! First Gear has announced a NEW Freightliner M2-114SD, and this truck is a great beginning and continuation for any collection. Some of the many features include: highly-detailed cab interior, engine compartment, chassis and undercarriage. The boom base swivels 360 degrees and the boom extends and tilts to help move the four drywall stacks included. Stabilizer legs and pads work to keep the chrome-accented truck steady as you work.
